Shine Ministry

Shine Ministry seeks to equip and disciple children, students, and adults with disabilities into the life and community of Southeast Christian Church. We believe God has given each of us unique abilities and talents for His glory and our good. As a ministry team, we strive to empower individuals with disabilities to know and love Jesus and others with their unique abilities. We provide age and developmentally appropriate ways for individuals with disabilities to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ while also building connection and community at Southeast Christian Church. We achieve this through multiple avenues, including, but not limited to, Shine Kids weekend worship, Shine Adults/Teens weekend groups and worship, SE!Kids Classroom Friends and Student Ministry Block Buddies, and annual events like Camp Freedom and the Shine Gala. As a ministry, we place a significant emphasis on connecting with a weekend group or online group to help grow your faith and build community. Children

Each Campus provides buddies for those needing extra support to attend SE!Kids programming. The Blankenbaker Campus also offers a classroom for children who benefit from a smaller class with additional space for movement.

Teens and Adults

Teens in Middle or High School are encouraged to attend programming at the campuses. We are here to provide additional support as needed. For those preferring smaller classes at the Blankenbaker Campus, we offer the following:

Heart to Heart—This class is for adults with developmental disabilities who want to study the Bible and fellowship in a small group before weekend worship. Sundays at 8:00 a.m., WC 246

Miracles—Teens and adults with developmental disabilities are invited to join our team of teachers as we share in worship, crafts, and a Bible lesson. Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. or Sundays at 10:45 a.m., WC 246

HOPE (Helping Other People Excel)—An integrated adult Weekend Group that focuses on Bible study and serving others. This class is a traditional Sunday school setting where independent adults share life together. Sundays at 10:45 a.m., ATLR 201

Parents of Children with Special Needs

Join us for our weekly Weekend Group, Parents Ability Group, as well as occasional special classes focused on enrichment or the practical needs of our families. Parents Ability Group meets on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. in WC 239.

Events

Camp Freedom—A weekend camp for anyone with developmental disabilities age 10 and older. This camp includes all typical camp experiences modified as needed for the individual camper. Held each July at Country Lake Christian Retreat, this is a favorite event of the year for many.

Shine Gala—Each year in October, we celebrate the unique way God made each of us. This formal dance party hosts over 1,000 guests with developmental disabilities for dancing, dinner, games, and a whole lot of fun.

Special Olympics/Special Olympics Young Athletes—We offer a variety of Special Olympics seasonal sports, including basketball, softball, soccer, bowling, and cheerleading. We also offer Special Olympics Young Athletes, which is a family program for children ages 2-7 who have developmental disabilities to practice a variety of pre-sport skills. Contact disabilities@secc.org for more information.
